Years serving Carlisle

Saint Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church has been serving the Carlisle community since 1829.

We are an evangelical catholic Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As a RIC church, we publicly welcome LGBTQ people.

Meet our Pastor

Rev. Martha S. Boyd

Born in North Carolina, raised in the Midwest (Kansas and Missouri) Martha is one of 10 children.  She lives with her husband, Jerry, in Mechanicsburg, PA.  They celebrated their 40th year of marriage this year.  Jerry is retired but does volunteer work.  Martha and Jerry have two adult children, Michael and Amanda.  Michael lives with his wife Rachel and their 3 children in Pittsburgh, PA.  Amanda lives with her husband Michael, in Illinois.  Martha likes to read, bike, jog, take walks/hikes, garden (vegetable and flowers), and sew when time permits.

Martha holds an MBA from Penn State, Capitol Campus and worked over seventeen years in Human Resources and Information Technology (HR applications) for private and public sector employers.  In earlier years, Martha was in the Air Force and stationed at Andrews AFB and McGuire AFB.  While raising children, she pursued an undergraduate degree, and was a seamstress for a Bridal shop.

She has a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg (now ULS) and was ordained in 2015.  The call to rostered ministry in the ELCA came later in life, but she has been a lifelong follower in faith and involved in serving in various ministries in all the congregations she has been part of.  Here is one of her many favorite passages in Scripture:

Jeremiah 29.11:  For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”

Martha is thankful for the opportunity to lead and share in ministry with the people of St. Matthias.
