Holy Week Update, April 13 2022

Greetings to you during this week as we travel to Jerusalem, the cross and the empty tomb. We will gather several times this week , that schedule below.

Maundy Thursday, April 14. We meet at the church for a Liturgy of Holy Communion at 7 pm. The readings include Jesus’ last teaching to the disciples.

Good Friday, April 15. We meet at the church for a Tenebrae, a Service of Shadows. This service will included the Passion according to John, chapters 18 and 19. The church will be dimly lit, and as the night goes will get darker. We will leave in shadow and silence. Service starts at 7 pm.

Vigil of Easter, Saturday April 16. St Stephen at New Kingstown will be hosting a Vigil of Easter, and invites all to join. The service will start outside and then end in the sanctuary. Masks are optional, and singing is limited to the last hymn of the evening.

Feast of Easter, Sunday April 17. We gather for the Feast of the Resurrection at 9:30 am . The sanctuary will be adorned with Easter lilies, and the paraments will be white and gold, the colors of festival and joy.

You are invited to attend as many of these as you wish. The journey from the gate into Jerusalem with people shouting ”Hosanna!” truly needs to include the Cross and Tomb if the Empty Tomb is to have its full triumph.

Prayer List: We raise prayers for Christian and all those who serve in the military and as first responders. We pray for Pam, Betty Lou, Mark, Pat, Seth, DJ, Margaret, George, Arleen, Greg, Ruth, Darry, Billie, Dave, Tim and Lisa, and all those in need of prayers whose names are known to God. All this we ask trusting in God’s mercy, AMEN.
