Updates, September 28, 2021

Some great news to brighten the cloudy day.

News from past vicar, MJ Irvin-Stellabotte : “Former vicar MJ Irvin-Stellabotte was called this past Sunday (September 26, 2021) to serve Geeseytown-Newry Lutheran parish as its next pastor. Her ordination as a Minister of Word and Sacrament will be held this coming Sunday, October 3, at her home congregation, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 1401 Twelth Avenue, Altoona PA . You are cordially invited to attend, or you may watch the livestream of the service on the church’s Facebook page : First Lutheran Church-Home of TLC School and Child Care.”

I plan to attend, and will share the love and support of St Matthias. God’s Blessings be upon MJ as she begins her Ministry of Word and Sacrament.

Anchor Church : The Councils of St Matthias and St Stephen met at St Stephen’s Sunday September 26. This meeting was the beginning of a conversation of how the two churches can support each others’ ministries. This was the first meeting, and was the beginning of the conversation. The two churches will prayerfully listen to the Spirit for where this conversation leads.

Quilt Fest ! Quilt Fest is going to continue into the upcoming Saturdays. As you have time, please stop by the Education Building Saturdays, between 10 am and 3 pm. We will be working this upcoming Saturday October 2. St Matthias is building a total of 10 quilts for the Homeless Memorial Blanket Project. They are in various stages of completion, and helpers are welcome to jump in when and as often as they can. To find out more information about the project at large please go to Homeless Blanket Memorial Project on Facebook. Entering Homeless Memorial Blanket Project in Google also brings up responses, for those who aren’t on Facebook. Be sure that you’re reading about the Carlisle PA project. There is a link to The Carlisle Sentinel about this project. Thanks to all for their involvment.

Prayer Requests : We turn our thoughts to prayer not just at this time, but at all times throughout the day ; in the line at the grocery store, while on hold, whenever we need to talk to God. This week we remember the following people and thoughts : Christian and all military personnel; All frontline personnel wherever they serve ; those who minister in so many different ways to their neighbor. We raise before The Almighty : Pam, Betty Lou, Mark, Pat, Seth, DJ, Margaret, Sally, George, Arleen, Greg, Charles, Ruth, Darryl, Billie, Dave. We ask healing for Rev. Carla Christopher Wilson. And we rejoice at the Ordination of MJ Irvin-Stellabotte. May MJ’s new ministry be blessed. All these things, and whatever the Spirit knows is on our hearts, we lift before God’s mercy and grace. Amen. Be well, Children of God.
